Membership in the AATSP creates valuable opportunities to interact and collaborate with other professionals, as well as engage in fun and informative activities. Our members consist of primary, secondary, and university teachers, professors, and administrators as well as other professionals who support Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian languages and cultures. Our New Jersey Chapter boasts over 365 current members. |

Professional Development
The AATSP offers numerous programs that foster professional development for both new and experienced teachers.
AATSP Annual Conference
Our annual conference alternates between a domestic site and an international setting (2022 - San Juan, Puerto Rico.) and features workshops, excursions, featured authors & speakers, sessions on all aspects of teaching Spanish & Portuguese including literature, cultures, and linguistics, and language and culture immersion opportunities.
Classroom Resources
The AATSP online resources are for Members Only. Classroom-ready, authentic, downloadable materials in Spanish and Portuguese that simplify the task of finding, evaluating, and adapting online resources.
Scholarships and Stipends for Educators
Our national office nurtures professional partnerships and offers annual conference travel stipends for first-time attendees, summer study scholarships to Spain and Mexico, and the Robert G. Mead, Jr. Travel, Study, and/or Research Award.

Awards
Various awards are bestowed by the organization to its membership - among them, the AATSP Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, the Robert G. Mead, Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award, our Outstanding Service Award, ISE Language Matters Award, and the Maria Isabel Abreu Award.
Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica
AATSP sponsors an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese, offer awards, publishes ¡Albricias!, a magazine of student work.
Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad
Designed to be flexible and friendly, the SHA is a new organization for elementary and middle school parents and their teachers. In order to have a chapter, the teachers must be members of AATSP.
Early Language Learning Poster Contest
Early Language Learning Poster Contest for students K-8.
National Spanish Exam and National Portuguese Exam
Participation in these exams require either AATSP membership for the sponsoring teacher or a school sponsorship. We encourage you to join the AATSP so you can challenge your students with this nationally recognized competition.
Hispania
The AATSP scholarly journal, Hispania is published quarterly and free with membership, featuring articles on literature, linguistics, culture, and language teaching and learning. Visit JSTOR for archived articles.
