OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD

Awards
The New Jersey Chapter of AATSP annually confers two awards to teachers of Spanish or Portuguese at any level from kindergarten to university.  Awards are announced and presented at the NJAATSP Congreso Primaveral in April 2015 at the Parsippany Holiday Inn.

Qualifications for Nomination
  1. The nominee must have been a member of AATSP and NJAATSP for at least five (5) consecutive years;
  2. The nominee must have a minimum of five years’ full-time teaching experience in which (s)he must have been teaching Spanish or Portuguese  the majority of the day.  In grades 1-8 particularly, evidence must be provided (see nomination form);
  3. The nominator must be a current member of AATSP and NJAATSP

Instructions for Nominating Teachers 
  1. Complete the nomination form (do not leave ANY spaces blank).
  2. On a separate sheet of paper, answer ALL of the questions listed below.  Keep in mind that a complete, detailed answer will enhance your nominee’s chance of winning the award.  This sheet must be typewritten.
  3. Return form and additional papers, postmarked no later than Feb. 28, 2015, to NJAATSP, c/o Jay Duhl, 26 Graphic Blvd., Bergenfield, NJ  07621.

Questions to Be Answered by Nominator
  1. 1.How does the nominee inspire students to want to speak the target language?
  2. In what ways does the nominee exhibit creativity and ingenuity in planning classroom activities which help to challenge students?
  3. How does the nominee seek to develop cultural understanding in his/her students
  4. In what ways does the nominee motivate critical thinking in students?
  5. Describe nominee’s leadership and participation in local, state, national or international activities which enhance his/her teaching of Spanish/Portuguese.
  6. How has the nominee furthered the knowledge or information available to colleagues concerning pedagogy, the language, literature, art or history of the Spanish or Portuguese speaking world?
  7. Summarize why this candidate is the most deserving person for this award.
